Dan Charness began his performance career as a classical cellist at the age of five. However, his musical interests evolved and broadened rapidly, and at age 12 he bought his first guitar. He soon began writing his own songs, inspired by the music of the Beatles, Neil Young, and Tom Petty. In high school, Charness began performing his songs at open mikes and small venues and soon started work on his first album, All Over the Map (2006). The album was produced in a home studio but impressed audiences with its complex instrumentation and arrangements. Charness performed every part on each track: vocals, guitars, bass, drums, cello, and even mandolin and banjo. A second album, One Night Stand, released in the summer of 2008, expanded Charnessís stylistic range, and featured a single, ďSummertime Delight,Ē that won critical acclaim from music critics and industry professionals alike. Charness promoted this album with performances at the Scullers Jazz Club (Boston, MA) and Club Passim, (Cambridge, MA) in the fall of 2008, and as an opening act for singer/songwriter Tom Rush in the summer of 2009. Charnessís unique style draws from the genres of folk, blue grass, southern rock, rock, and classical music. Charness is a graduate (2010) of Wesleyan University in Connecticut, where, as a history major, he wrote a thesis on the Beatles and the baby boomers. He has embarked on his career as a singer-songwriter and writer in New York City.
