Since 2011, Karine has been working on sonic projects (as a dynamic-duo aptly titled: Past the Rubicon) with incredible Canadian talent, Edgar Ozolins (formerly of Querkus, an artrock/downtempo/electro-acoustic duo from Winnipeg, and a prodigious film-music writer/producer). Karine's lyrics, vocals, songwriting, and various instrument-playing contributions, coupled by Edgar's guitars, unparalleled sonic-creativity, and extensive sound expertise, allow for new wonders in the musical realm of indietronica-meets-exploratory-atmospheric-mood-trip-hop. Past the Rubicon had their radio debut in Western Canada in early 2012 and more is in the forecast!
Karine was born in Paris, France, and immigrated to Toronto, Canada at a young age. Despite her alternative-rock edge today, her roots/routes began classically, and continue to influence her musicality. At age four, she took up classical piano training at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Canada, which she completed ten years later. Since then, Karine has also been trained in opera and voice, musical theory and harmony, as well as classical flute. She has won prestigious national and international music awards for her piano performances as well as her own singing and songwriting (e.g. The 2007 Great American International Songwriting Competition: Top Finalist for her moody track entitled "My Why", Canadian National Music Competition: Bronze Medal 5th place, Kiwanis Music Festival Competitions: Gold, Silver and Bronze medals). Over the last ten years, Karine has been writing her own music and has been showcased on Canadian radio and in Canadian film. She has also been a solo and lead vocalist in local events such as the Metro Toronto Caravan, Royal Bank of Canada S&T Festival, Mel Lastman Multicultural Festival, and The Help-To-Hear Foundation Music Tribute, to name a few.
In the past, Karine's trip-hop and rock music was filled with intertwining dual guitars, innovative baselines, steady, driving rhythms, as well as haunting melodies and lyrics. These days Karine is known in the local music scene as a free-thinking philosopher-queen whose songs possess delight for both the senses and the mind. Indeed, Karine involves listeners in a struggle between reservation and eruption—a view towards that which dislodges comfort and instills the sensual.
*Note: the song available here on Indie International is an unfinished project from 2008 and does not reflect the "typical" sound of current musical Karine-ventures. Do visit Karine's soundcloud page to click 'n hear some newer tracks, such as Elegiac Requiem for Can, Gimme, Chocolate Chernobyl, Seductive Innocence, and others.

She is an intricate and feeling reflection - how is it possible that the world has not found her...
her voice her words - they are transporting, and I am alight with her fire.
