Helmut Uhlmann is singer/songwriter whose diversity defines him. He is a dynamic musician whose talent ranges from being a multi-instrumentalist and singer to a semi-professional songwriter, producer and sound engineer at just 19.
Helmut first started learning guitar at age 12 and at 15 he started to sing. From there songwriting flowed naturally and he soon began to experiment recording music with the freeware program Audacity. At 16 Helmut volunteered to learn and operate the live sound at the community based Mars Hill Café and began to learn exponentially. Throughout this time and until the end of his final high school exams, Helmut continued to perform, write and record but had to concentrate on his studies because, as his parents put it, “music should be a hobby”.
Growing up, Helmut listened to various styles of music from acoustic, rock and metal to r&b and electro. Helmut was expanding his taste to the point where he didn't know who he wanted to be as an artist – because choosing to work through one genre meant alienating another.
2010 saw Helmut truly begin his career, working as a producer, songwriter and a performing artist. He has recently finished producing his own debut EP titled 'Never Noticed' and has worked on several other projects such as Mai-anh Nguyen's 'Arthur Street' record and is currently working on Tailor Maid's first EP. As a songwriter, Helmut is currently working with Logie Award winning James Mark Anthony, on his 'School's Out' television project, currently being shopped around to the major networks. He is working as the prime songwriter and as musical director to the young 12 year old band starring in the program. Lastly, as an artist, Helmut has been playing in the singer-songwriter circuit around Sydney, performing in venues ranging from The Basement and Favela Nightclub to pubs and RSLs.
