Chooka Parker is a self taught pianist who first walked on stage and into people’s hearts when he auditioned for the Channel 7 Reality show “Australia’s Got Talent” in 2011. The young 16 year old casually sauntered to his keyboard then made up a song which floored both the judges and audience. He made it as far as the finals on the show, and this launched his music career.
As a child, Chooka was always active, creating things and inventing new ways of doing things. He spent his childhood enjoying nature and having little technology to distract him, not having TV or the internet. He began clarinet lessons at 13 after hearing classical music for the first time. This then progressed to the keyboard which he taught himself to play, composing and recording his own material.
At 16 years old, he decided he wanted to go to Shearing School to become a shearer...taking his little keyboard with him so that he could play at night after each day’s work. The shearers, impressed by what they heard, encouraged him to enter “Australia’s Got Talent”~ of course they had to even explain what the show was. So that’s exactly what he did...he auditioned for the show in 2010 and went on to the 2011 (5th Series) show, making it to the finals.
Chooka has a unique gift where he can play how he feels and bring out amazing depth in music, touching people’s souls. He plays his own compositions and does variations on others. His music is eclectic in style with a classical base. He will use the different genres in music such as classical, rock, blues, jazz etc., and combines them together to create a beautiful sound. He has been dubbed “a freak, a prodigy, and a teenage Mozart”. He has also been likened to Chopin and Beethoven.
His music takes you on a journey, it can command your attention..bring healing to a wounded heart and uplift the soul. He captivates audiences, often having a lasting impression on them. Many have shared how his music has helped them emotionally, lifting them out of their grief and pain. Chooka’s goal is just that, he states..”My aim with my music is to help people.”
Chooka has released his debut album ‘No Worries!’ in October 2011.(Most of the songs were improvised while recording.) He has also performed at a range of venues from nursing homes, schools, fundraisers, local shows to playing at Etihad Stadium, the Grafton Jacaranda Festival, Anglesea Music Festival and in the Sydney Opera House, where he was the winner of the 'People's Coice Award', MusicOz Awards. He has played alongside Brian Cadd and Russell Morris, Babba and Jack Vidgen~ winner of Australia's Got Talent 2011. More recently, Chooka was back on TV, performing as a special guest on this year's semi finals of Australia's Got Talent!
He has amassed over 4 million views on one audition clip alone, the total youtube views in excess of 7 million. He was also one of the top 9 pictures taken for 2011 in the Sunday Herald Sun. Chooka has over 15,700 facebook fans from all over the world who love interacting with him. He connects to all ages of people from around the globe. He is still a very down-to-earth young man with an extraordinary talent.
Stunning! Your music really does succeed in taking our minds elsewhere.
