Music is an activity of sound that allows us to celebrate and explore the relationships we share with one another, with the world we live in, with the divine and within ourselves. Making music and sharpening our musical and creative skill then is the practice of building and affirming these relationships in the most effective way. That is why Matt Templeton answers "to bring people together" when asked why he wants to be a musician. Matt is a young songwriter but already a powerful and fresh perspective is beginning to poke its head from his widely influenced music.
Growing up in Athens, Georgia, Matt had a curious mind. From spending hours as a kid mastering techniques and theory on his guitar to learning the in depth principles of sciences and math, he always wanted to get to the bottom of things and really understand how they work. Now, as he is beginning his practice of songwriting he draws inspiration from all the things in his life he has learned. "What I love about songwriting, and any creative art for that matter, is that I can learn and be inspired by anything and everything. A chocolate bar can become a metaphor, a history book can become research. Everything I've learned comes into play when I sit down to write."
His lyrics are a stark look past the semiotics of our culture that bring into focus the things right in front of us that we'd overlooked time and time again. "I want to force people to imagine a perspective other than their own while simultaneously making their shoulders drop and their booties pop."
As Matt starts his career he wants to team up with anyone and everyone truly interested in writing great songs and getting them heard.
