Colorado singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mark Davenport, has found a niche for his piano-based songs rooted in 16th-century hymns and motets. Combining rock instrumentation and authentic period instruments with poetic lyrics fashioned on the English sonnet, his songs cross musical boundaries from 70's-style Americana to contemporary artists such as Ben Folds. The links to renaissance music create a unique artistic venture.
Davenport's newly released concept album "Joyful Sighs & Soulful Hymns," also features Grammy-Award winning guitarist and bassist, David Snider; Christian Teele, house drummer for the NPR radio show “eTown” in Boulder,CO; and Daniel Jones on pedal steel guitar. Internationally renowned gambist Wendy Gillespie accompanies on the viola da gamba.
