Hello, I am Matt Michaelis. I grew up playing the piano. When I got into songwriting 10 years ago, it became the most fulfilling and exhilarating activity I have ever experienced, even in spite of "know it all" friends making fun of my work in the beginning. As I progressed through the years, the feedback I kept getting was "the songs are good, but your voice needs work." So I began to take voice lessons. But being too passionate about it, I gradually destroyed my vocal chords. Four years later, I am still unable to sing, and it still hurts to even speak. After it happened, I was devastated, but I still felt a driving need to express myself through writing songs. So I decided to learn the guitar. That brought entire new ways of expressing myself that I could have never dreamed of before. As all of you know, once you catch the songwriting bug, it is impossible to dismiss. Through its ups and downs, you plug on, simply because the need for self-expression grows deeper as you get better at it. Songwriting will continue until the day I die.
