Sweeping, catchy melodies over poetically quirky lyrics.
This sums up what Hong Kong-based singer/songwriter William Elvin’s music is all about.
He began to write songs at age 16 in his room at a suburban house in the Philippines, and performed them in dark and dingy rock clubs around Manila. The theme of his songs was very clear: Making sense out of life’s absurdities and surviving a world that is hostile to his eccentricities.
In 2010, he began writing original stage musicals that got attention and acclaim from Filipino media and audiences alike. During this time, it became more apparent that William is a creative force to be reckoned with, earning praises not only as a songwriter, but as a creative writer and performance artist as well.
He now resides in Hong Kong, where he continues to perform with his band ‘William Elvin and the Circus Tour’. His artistic and creative sense had matured and his environment different, but his brave fight against an absurd world through music and lyrics still remain vibrant.
He now aims to take his music to a much wider audience, and continue his musical and lyrical journey further.
I have always been a big fan of William, from both his work in a band as well as his work in theatre. This entry is no exception, it is pure poetry that floats the listener to a world of his creation where we just want to stay a while, close our eyes, and be grateful to William for allowing us a bit into his soul.
