“My music hints at the unspoken elements...”
Josh Birdsong is an independent singer/songwriter currently based in Nashville, TN. His debut EP, “Simple Geometry”, intertwines soulful songwriting with ambient production, crafting music that resonates across genres—ranging from the influences of songwriters such as John Mayer, Morrissey, and James Taylor to the sonic landscapes of Tycho. The EP, recorded by Nashville producer Stephen Leiweke, who has worked with artists including Ingrid Michaelson and Jars of Clay, captures the weaving of Josh’s signature guitar style and his characteristic vocal phrasing.
“Simple Geometry” features the song, “You And I”, which won in the 2015 International Songwriting Competition for lyrics, selected from over 18,500 entrants from 120 countries. It highlights his ability to write lyrics that strike at the core of human connection. The first track and single, “Unspeakable”, contains subtleties of Brit-Pop while filled with cunning lyrics that touch the deeper undertone of frailty in relationships. “Radio Waves”, “Drive”, and “Why?”, show innovative use of pedals with warm delays and reverbs layered upon loops of guitar tracks. Each song evokes personal atmosphere and unique observation, threaded together by Josh’s songwriting and inventive guitar.
