I began writing songs with Mark Walmsley in the late 1970s at school in Canberra. The two of us formed a band called the Dapto Trio that played original material at local restaurants, bars and at the university refectory. Mark now is an established and successful music producer in Sydney. I am an academic at the Australian National University fighting against the Corporatocene in all its nefarious manifestations. Mark and I got the band back together (and that is never routine or predictable) and wrote these songs to consider the ethical principles that should guide people living in a Sustainocene world where each road and building uses nanotechnology to make clean fuel, food and fertiliser just from sunlight, water and air. I was intrigued with the idea that globalisation of this new technology might create the stable material conditions for a world contemplative culture; but that the madness in the human heart could yet destroy us before such a peaceful future of humans in harmony with nature eventuates.
