With numerous Billboard-charting singles, over 200 releases, over 80 film and TV placements, and millions of album sales under her belt, Alex Forbes exudes a contagious passion on the subject of songwriting. Her mission is to nurture the next generation of great songwriters.

She has been coaching groups and individuals in the art and craft of songwriting since 1990 and has led courses and workshops in the Masters Degree program at NYU Steinhardt, Gotham Writers Workshop, the ASCAP Foundation, The Institute for Collaborative Education, The International Songwriting Camp in Austria, The Connecticut Songwriters Association and many other organizations. Alex is also the author of Write Songs Right Now and SongLab, both published by Blackstone Audio.

Alex’s songs have been placed in many feature films, while others have appeared in TV shows and an Off-Broadway show. Overseas, Alex’s songs have been hit singles for Indra (France), Patti Day (U.K.), Papa Dee (Sweden) and Marie Frank (Denmark, Gold Album).

Recent successes include co-writing “Where Will the Giants Roam” with Willam Katz, the winning song for the Global March For Elephants and Rhinos song competition, for which the prize is a $30,000 photo safari in Africa. Placements include “Bodies Electric” and “Dance In the Shadows” on Dance Moms, “Turn It Around,” on Make It or Break It, and “Melt Away” in the Denzel Washington film Déjà Vu.

Alex’s first hit was the now-classic dance song,” Too Turned On.” This initial success led to a series of hit singles including Taylor Dayne’s massive hit “Don’t Rush Me” (#2 Pop, #3 AC, #6 Dance, multi-platinum album, ASCAP Pop Award), Rockell’s classic freestyle version of “In A Dream,” and the Top 20 Pop hit “Nothin’ My Love Can’t Fix,” the latter of which Alex also co-produced.

High points also included collaborating with Cyndi Lauper on a tune for her film, “Off and Running,” and co-producing Martha Wash, whose powerhouse voice was featured in the Weather Girls and C+C Music Factory, and who recorded Alex’s “Leave a Light On.””

New Zealand superstar Hayley Westenra’s recording of “You Are Water” appeared on her Classical/Pop album, Odyssey, which spent over a year on the Billboard charts. Another song is set to be appear in the finale of Nurse Jackie.

Recently two songs co-written with 3-time Grammy winner Nile Rodgers have been released, one on his most recent CHIC album, and one with French icon Sheila. Many of Alex’s newest songs are “on hold” or recorded and awaiting release dates with artists and producers in a wide variety of styles.

Since 1998, Alex has been contributing her talents to the Songs Of Love Foundation, a nonprofit organization that creates personalized songs for kids facing serious health challenges.

Alex received a Creative Writing degree from Stanford University, and was mentored in the art and craft of pop songwriting by the legendary Doc Pomus (“This Magic Moment,” “Save The Last Dance For Me”).
