I have written lyrics as long as I can remember, and music since I was ten years old (or so.) No one in my family of origin was a musician, that I know of. Creative expression has just always been how I communicate with the world, and how I have managed to survive in it. I usually write when I am in some dark night of the soul, not when I am happy. When happy, I am too busy being that.
Music saved my life as a kid from certain self-destruction. As an adult, playing in bands, always having rock bands and music, fellow musicians as my social circle, I kept my head above turbulent waters…a messed-up childhood, single parent-hood, abusive relationships, alcohol & drugs. My club appearances are few now, but my writing days are never done. Now, as a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I have done all my field work, and as I hear all the stories now—many of them like mine….I write. And write. And write!
