Bio

Joshua is a native of England and a scholarship student attending the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. He is an accomplished Drummer, Pianist and Composer. Josh is pursuing his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance and has been placed on the Dean’s List with a current GPA of 3.7.

Twenty years of age and in his sixth semester, Josh feels that it is essential to have a global focus and recently studied abroad at the Berklee Campus in Valencia, Spain. In Valencia he developed new musical ideas as he focused on the musical and cultural traditions of the Mediterranean. In addition, last semester he was invited to the Berklee International school USFQ (University of San Francisco Quito) in Ecuador, where he gave clinics, workshops and private lessons to over 80 students, ending with an album release concert as part of the Daniel Toledo Trio.

Joshua has been drumming since he was two years old. He began by banging on pots and pans. Joshua’s father, a jazz saxophonist, noticed Josh’s good sense of rhythm. He would watch his father’s video tapes and drum along.

Joshua’s formal training on drums began at age 4 and by age 6 he was able to read rhythm notation. That same year he began drumming in his fathers’ Church band. By the time he reached middle school he had taken up piano lessons.

In high school Joshua was involved in the Honors Jazz Band, Honors Jazz Combo and Honors Wind Ensemble. He also studied Advanced Placement Music Theory. Josh was a Student Director and Mentor in the high school jazz program and began composing. At age 15 he received a scholarship to attend the Berklee Percussion Festival in 2009 and in 2011 he attended the Berklee Summer Program and was selected as the All Star Jazz Drummer.

Mark White, a Berklee professor, spent several weeks rehearsing with Joshua for the “Blowout” Concert at the Berklee Performance Center. In recommendation for Josh, Professor White wrote “Wow! What a great candidate for the school! Top notch drum chops, ears, reading, the whole package. He drove the band and played terrifically at the gig…”

Joshua has garnered numerous awards which include the Ella Fitzgerald Jazz Award, the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award, and the Clark Terry UNH Jazz Awards for ‘Outstanding Musicianship’ on both drums and piano. He was selected in 2012 by NAFME as the drummer for the All-Nationals Honor Jazz Ensemble and performed at the JFK Center for Performing Arts in Washington D.C. In 2014, Josh entered an original composition into the Indie International Songwriting Contest and placed 4th.

Although Joshua embraces all musical styles, he is heavily influenced by artists Robert Glasper, Doobie Powell and John Coltrane.
Joshua’s compositions reflect harmony, musicality and deep expression.
“HERE WITH ME” is a song about a life of inward struggle that one goes through. There is much pain expressed in this struggle but there is the unending hope of a brighter day ahead.
