JUSTINA SHANDLER is a singer-songwriter and composer for media, originally from Roanoke, VA. Her songs have been described as the music baby of Regina Spektor and Billy Joel. Justina uses unconventional chord progressions and deeply honest, blunt, lyrics to tell meaningful musical stories.
Justinas songs have been lauded in international competitions and by leading industry professionals. In 2012, she won first place in both Indie International Songwriting Contests rock category for Someone Elses Bed and in the renowned UK Songwriting Contests love song category for If You Ever Miss Me. In 2013, she was a finalist in the Mountain Stage New Song Contest; the following year, she was a co-winner of Carnegie Halls Songwriting Contest. Most recently, Justina was selected as one of ten songwriter finalists to perform on the main stage at the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival in Lyons, CO.
Justina has worked with songwriters Craig Carothers, Jon Lind, Lari White and Craig Carnelia, and with film composers Jay Vincent and Chuck Henry. She has performed her original songs at Lincoln Center and Rockwood Music Hall in New York (with members of Sara Bareilles’ band), at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, TN, and at various comedy clubs in Los Angeles. She regularly performs at local south Florida venues and has a permanent monthly gig in Coconut Grove.
Justinas film work has earned her credits in the Internet Movie Database (imdb.com). She and fellow composer Steven Gizzi scored the short film, “Gwyndor,” written by Dixie Perkinson and Nathalie Antonia, and directed by David Crabtree. The film has received high recognition and was screened at Hollyshorts Film Festival at the Grauman Chinese Theater. Justina continues to write songs for filmmakers in Los Angeles, and is now writing music for iPhone apps.
Justina is currently pursuing her Masters degree in Media Writing and Production, and is a teaching assistant at the University of Miamis Frost School of Music. She has been spending this summer teaching songwriting and music theory to middle and high school students. She recently completed her undergraduate studies at University of Miami as a member of the Bruce Hornsby Creative American Music program.
Justinas new 9-track EP, Three Leaf Clover, was released in June 2015 and can be purchased on iTunes and streamed on Spotify.
