Meredith Laney is a singer-songwriter currently living in Charlotte, NC. She wrote her first song at the age of 5 on a small square of hot pink construction paper. It was mostly random musical notes on the page, but it was a good place to start. She grew up on a nourishing diet of folk, rock, and blues and spent time writing in various genres along the way. While she loved the challenge in discovering new genres, she never let her songwriting passion fade. She observed the structures and styles utilized by other songwriters, hoping to become a better listener as to what made their songs stand out. She continues to listen and is fortunate to have found a supportive and talented group of songwriting friends at the Charlotte Chapter of NSAI. She writes close to the body, giving her songs a personal yet open-hearted style.
She graduated from Augusta State University in Georgia with a B.A. in English, Creative Writing and a minor in Women’s Studies.
She lives with her daughter, Mackenzie, co-writer and singer-songwriter, David Holtzclaw, and their ensemble of rescued and adopted pets.
