About Me

Beef Supreme are a 5 piece folkabilly acoustic rock band from the south east of Ireland, formed late in 2008 by Niall O’Connor and Jimmy O’Rourke. Jimmy and Niall had previously been in an underground punk-rock trio called ‘gym slip …’, but had decided that the heavy sound was getting in the way of good song writing. Beef supreme originally started as a two piece acoustic act with some electronics supporting the rhythm section but as the members grew so too did the sound. The group now includes Shane O’Rourke, Shane Glover and Seamus Kelly, lining up with drums, bass, guitar, bouzouki, banjo, melodica, organs, harmonica, jaw harp and vocals. The music is the equivalent of rock on traditional instruments with some experimental blues and hillbilly beats.

The group started gigging as a 5 Piece in early 2009, instantly growing their own local fan base on quality of their live performances and after playing support slots for ‘Stoned Developments’, ‘IlyaK’ and ‘House of Cosy Cushions’ (to name a few) they felt they were ready to take to the road themselves. Playing in Carlow and Kilkenny for only two months the group were approached by the Crewger Arts group to headline a film and arts festival in Abbeyleix (Co Laois). The night would truly test the bands material and playing outdoors to an audience of 400 locals Beef supreme simply “Blew the roof of’a Abbeyleix!”

The group were asked to headline another festival taking place in Stradbally (Co Laois) on the eve of Electric-Picnic 2009 with a repeat performance bowling the locals and fans over. Beef supreme headlined the Justice Thumbs tour of Ireland (raising money for Downs Syndrome), opened up at the Red Line Roots Festival Dublin, were narrowly beaten in the final of the Kilkenny Busker 2009 festival by political offspring and were set for the Irish Beer festival in Louth but later had to pull out due to swine flu epidemic!

2009 saw the group produce a 9 track demo album entitled ‘Presents’ on what can only be described as a shoe string budget. The album was recognised by Indie Label Records and Roxy Music Ireland ltd and is available for purchase by both distributors. The band are a No1 artist with ILR and also with Gigsmart Ireland. Beef supreme later released the album with CD Baby and it is now also available through itunes, napster, amazon, last-fm e.t.c.

In 2010 the band will continue headlining underground festivals, supporting charitable causes, building their fanbase and hopefully making it to a few of the bigger festivals. With another album worth of material ready to go the band are hoping to attract the interest of a major label to help them reach a global audience.
