About Me

Tyne And Wear

Paul Liddell

At only 25 years old, Paul is already somewhat a veteran of the acoustic music world, having released two solo albums and an EP with his band ‘Delphians’. His second album ‘A Lighthouse Keeper’s Diary’ was released on his own label ‘Regulus Music’ and was distributed in stores around the UK by Universal/Absolute.

Over the years Paul has been playing, he has been courted by many record labels including RCA, Independiente, and EMI, but has remained independent and unsigned throughout. He feels working independently gives an artist great freedom and control over their music, and that a DIY approach is a much more healthy way to grow and expand an artist’s music. However, he is not ‘anti-industry’ and would love to work with a label if the right one came along.

Recently, Paul has been touring extensively all over the UK, his one man show and self effacing style combined with his powerful and unpretentious delivery earning him many new fans along the way. This live experience has paid great dividends, with Paul last year playing the same bill as Sting at the Piperine Free Festival in Milan. In February ’07 Paul undertook his first tour of America, which was a great success. He played 8 gigs around California and the West Coast, and even performed on a TV show filmed at Time Warner Studios in Hollywood. Since then, Paul’s song ‘Brighter Lights’ has been selected for a folk compilation CD to be distributed nationally and TV advertised throughout the US.

Paul’s new project ‘New Thing Coming’ was released in October 2007 as a download only EP, available through itunes and other digital outlets. Produced by Paul’s anarchic musical mentor Steve Daggett (producer of Lindisfarne and believe it or not Paul Gasgoine’s version of ‘Fog On The Tyne’), this release should surely see Paul gain more of the national recognition he surely deserves. The EP is selling very well.

November 2007 saw Paul begin work on a film music project with famed director Tony Kaye, whose work on the film ‘American History X’ is widely acclaimed. The new project has some big Hollywood names involved, but it’s top secret for now, sorry! Paul has also made it through to the finals of the Independent Music Awards with his song ‘Brighter Lights’, beating off competition from thousands of other entries. Paul is also in the final of the ISC (international songwriting competition) ’07. As of Jan ’08 Paul will be playing 15 dates around India with world music star Sean Oliver. Finally, Paul has just been offered a record deal with Fairtrade records, a label based in London. Fingers crossed it all works out!
