This project was originally inspired by Tom Plaut . Tom was a proficient lyricist with a dream of getting his words heard through rock music by as many people as possible. Tom saw himself as a prophet of sorts, sent here to deliver messages through song. This idea seemed a bit crazy to many around him. However, after Tom’s sudden, untimely and unexpected death, lyrics for nearly 200 of his original songs were discovered. These songs’ subject matters ranged from love and relationships to politics, from the state of the mental health system to the state of the world, and beyond. Also found was a mock obituary of him written by him 20 years prior to his death, containing descriptions and details that were hauntingly similar to his real death. His lyrics were compelling, deep, thought provoking and in some cases even prophetic. In Late 2006, Tom’s friends and co-writers Phil Braun and Chris Zitani were inspired to bring some of the old songs back to life as a tribute to and in memory of Tom. The process gave inspiration to brand new songs, a continuing songwriting collaboration, and gave birth to Not for Prophet.
