Bio

Ryan Stotland is a songwriter from Montreal, Quebec. While working as an economic researcher during the 2008 financial crisis, Ryan released his first album called Recession Sessions about the financial meltdown. The album was widely covered by the media including NPR Morning Edition, American Public Media and Freakonomics blog. In 2011, he toured the album with his band The Bull and The Bear and they raised significant amount of money for families affected by the crisis.

Raising money for important causes has been an important mission in Ryan’s life. Ryan has also raised $300,000 for skin cancer and climate change with several long distance bike rides. The Montreal Gazette named Ryan as the Montrealer of the year in 2006 when after he crossed Canada on a bicycle raising money for skin cancer.

Ryan’s next songwriting project was called The Fall Line. He produced the songs with Montreal producer Daniel Moscovitch and the songs are performed by various Montreal artists. The goal was to blend songwriting inspired by the folk styles of Paul Simon and Bob Dylan with a more pop production. The music has been played frequently on CBC radio and the group performed the songs this year at the POP montreal festival in the fall.

Ryan earned a bachelors degree in econonomics from Tufts University in 2008. He also completed a master certificate from Berklee College of Music in music business. He was awared the Alf Clausen Celebrity Scholarship from Berklee.
