Stephan Braun, born in 1978 studied classical cello and jazzcello at the university in Hamburg and Berlin. Stephan has performed in different projects with Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Berliner Ensemble, NDR-Bigband and he worked as a sideman with Chris Hinze, Manfred Weinberger, Don Thomson, Boi Akih, Kristjan Randalu, Annamateur among others. In 2004 he won the 1st price of the Jazz & Blues Award in Berlin with the band deep strings.
Now his CD debut (The Raid, released 2008) is out and cellist Stephan Braun, a seasoned musician to be sure, answers the question once and for all of what the true domain of the cello in jazz is: groove.
He currently resides in Berlin, Germany.
