About Me

Garden Grove

Whittney Mikkél is a professional vocalist, pianist, songwriter and educator in Orange and LA County. Growing up in a family of musicians, artists, and performers, she began piano lessons at the age of five and showed a natural talent for singing from a young age. Her love for writing music began while attending Orange County School of the Arts, where she received four years of coaching in musical theater and opera. She excelled in both classical and jazz voice while attending Fullerton College, before entering the Jazz Studies program at the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University Long Beach, where she obtained a BM in Performance.

Whittney has extensive experience and training in several genres of music, including classical and jazz performance, choral music, and contemporary rock/pop-based genres. She performed for three years with CSU Long Beach’s award-winning vocal jazz ensemble, Pacific Standard Time, which has toured the US and performed at prestigious music events such as the American Choral Directors Association National Conference and the Monterey Jazz Festival. In recent years her voice has appeared on albums by local artists Tom Bremer and Amherst Aisle, and is part of the choir during the ending credits to the documentary Life is Love, recorded at Capitol Records. She is currently the soprano section leader and a board member of Paul Delgado Singers, a professional-level chamber choir and new non-profit company based in Fullerton, which she has been affiliated with since 2008.

Drawing on all her influences, Whittney enjoys exploring several avenues of music. Her wide vocal range, technical expertise and stylistic versatility make her a chameleon in the music world. Even so, Whittney has developed her own unique voice as a singer-songwriter. Her ability to create meaningful compositions and self-produce them gives her an edge as an independent artist. Naturally poetic, her songs are both intellectual and soulful, filled with lush vocal harmonies, unconventional melodies, and progressions that catch the ear. When she’s not teaching, rehearsing or performing, you can find her creating. She independently released her debut album Before the Day on October 1, 2014 and is currently working on releasing several singles which are a series of original songs featuring kalimba and vocals.
