About Me

From early childhood, Wonitha knew she was to be a singer and a songwriter. At age eleven she began entering singing competitions – and winning! At twelve she made her first recording. As she grew up Wonitha documented her struggles, her joys, her view of the world the only way she could – through her song writing and her singing.

Raising a family takes time, but Wonitha continued sharing her writing and singing gifts for family and close friends. Once her children had grown and left to pursue their own dreams in life, Wonitha began to devote her energies into her dream in life- singing and writing music.

Her first commercial album “You and I” received considerable airtime on the radio. This gained her recognition for an interview on a local radio station in Edmonton. After the interview, the station played her special Christmas release song “That’s Why They Call it Christmas”.

Wonitha performed at the Canada Day Celebrations in Lac La Biche where she showcased with Prairie Oyster, The Johner Brothers and Priscilla Morin. As well as playing at The Side Track Café in Edmonton Ab., Wonitha performed to a packed house in Sherwood Park, Alberta’s Festival Place.

Wonitha’s music has been spotlighted with in depth interviews numerous times over the last two years on CKER and World FM. She has appeared on the A Channel.

Wonitha has settled in Edmonton now, and has become part of the ‘music community’. She participates in fund raising concerts for local radio stations for such causes as the “Kids Kottage”.

Wonitha also frequents the Little Flower School, an open stage which allows performers to play original music and jam with each other. The last few years, The Wonitha Thomas Band has performed as a regular at the Rangeton Folk Music Festival.

Wonitha has three CD’s to her credit. – “You and I”, “All in a Dream” and her latest CD “These Memories”. The song ‘You and I’ is on the 2000 Canadian Aboriginal Music Award Winner” Best Country Album.” by Priscilla Morin.

Wonitha was a finalist for Universal Music Publishing contract in Los Angeles California. Her song “You and I’ was in the top 8 , however only three finalists were awarded a music publishing contract with Universal Music.

Along with her original material, The Wonitha Thomas Band performs cover songs from the sixties and seventies
