Four Fallen Hairbands
by Michael McGuire
Genre: Folk
Lyrics
a conversation or a soundbite?
a hesitation or a tongue tied?
displace no damaged wires
propelling treadless tires
until the fire’s contained
no smoke detected no flames
until the casual tidings wear thin
for fallen hairbands
a crowded coat rack
a pattern perpetuated
purposefully perpetrated
to lend you no saw
it’s only for those who might smooth out the edges
oh, i don’t think you are any help at all
oh, toni
you never knew
no one holds you down
lower than you do
though your days are complacent
and you know them only to be wasted
i would’ve wasted away with you
