I’ve been to New York

by Jeff Burton and Gary Shepherd

Genre: Jazz/Blues

I’ve been to New York

Some folk like suburban life
Others roam around
But I’ve discovered something more
The answer I’ve been searching for
Follow me as I explore
This simple truth I’ve found

I’ve been to New York in the autumn
When Central Park is shining in the sun
There was jazz piano playing in the lobby
Tinkling through the standards one by one

I’ve been to Memphis when it’s cloudy
I’ve even walked past Graceland in the rain
On Basin Street the blues were all around me
I felt a thrill that I can not explain

I’ve been to Paris when it’s springtime
With flowers blooming all around the square
On the boulevards the gypsies made sweet music
And lovers, hand in hand, were everywhere

But in every place I travel, I get lonely
Because I’m here, and you’re so far away
For all that these grand locations have to offer
I know that I’m never gonna to stay
