Less Alone

Less Alone

There’s a woman driving up the interstate
On her way through Carolina
Following signs to some small town in Virginia
Oh, headed through the Shenandoah
Maybe she’ll keep on moving
Maybe she’ll keep on going till she runs out of road

She’s tired of driving, tired of spinning
Her story, her wheels
She’s hardly breathing at all anymore
Reinventing herself as she goes along
Building a story all on her own
She’s rewriting her life
To feel less alone

She’s a storyteller on the open road
Nothing but trees and sky for miles
Making her way to something new off the Skyline
Oh, winding through those mountain roads
Maybe she’ll just start over
Maybe she’ll just start better and learn to be still

There’s a woman driving up the interstate
With her dog curled up beside her
She sings along with James Taylor
And he sets her throat on fire…
