Sacrifice
He was a Cuban doctor, had it good in Havana
Before the overthrow
Grabbed his wife and daughter and took out on the water
Left behind his stethoscope
Miles and miles of one hell of a hell-ride
took it’s toll when that boat capsized, oh
Sacrifice
he paid with his life
for the dream
that his family would live free
Should be a God-given right
but their freedom came with a price
Sacrifice
Momma clung to her baby and to a float, made it safely to the coast
and was granted asylum
She made an honest wage
saved college funds so that one day
her daughter would be able to go
She stretched the rest enough to just get by
Too proud for that welfare line
Sacrifice
working days and nights
for the American dream
To her it meant simply
Putting her needs aside
So her daughter would have a better life
Sacrifice
And finally the day it came
When she saw her daughter graduate,
And the tears began to swell when she saw her on that stage
Turned her hands up and then
Looked to her husband above and said
We did it my darling
Your dream is alive today
We made it in the usa
Thank you for all you gave
It’s the sacrifice
the choices in your life
that plant the seeds
of your children’s dreams
Putting yourself aside
So that they can live better lives
