Sail On

by Royce Morris

Genre: Singer-Songwriter

Crying gulls, salty air
one final glance back, a tearful farewell
they shoulder their packs and march one by one
then set the mainsail toward the setting sun

With polished boots, a gleaming sword
he steps out on the deck and says spread the word
cast aside your lingering doubts
our mission is clear and our cause devout

On we sail on…

The breakers roll and the wind blows in
a darkening horizon, a swig of gin
the timbers groan and the ship protests
yet he drives her still harder towards the brooding west

Tattered sails, a splintered bow
the mast split in two he knows she’s going down
the crew stands fast and strains to hear
their last damning order their deepest fear
