STILL THERE
That big old tree is still there
Blowing in the breeze
And it’s still outside my window
Wooly, lush, and green
That window has changed little
The latch still needs repair
And the sky may go from white to blue
To grey, but it stays there
The old man is still rolling
From the town out to the bay
With the Sun above still shining
Oblivious, come what may
And the wheel of life keeps turning
There’s nothing can stem the tide
But this memory that I’m feeling
Is saying nothing really dies
The cards are still being opened
On the same green cloth to play
In their shuffling and their dealing
Who can tell which way they’ll lay
In the rough and on the fairways
In the lakes or out of bounds
The balls still fall with random will
Though you’re missing from the round
In the office they’re still typing
As if nothing’s gone awry
But every time I think of you
I wonder will I cry
The choir is still singing
Though its voice is forever changed
I can hear it’s you they’re feeling
As Yesterday’s arranged
The News is being read as usual
With their strikes and strife and wars
My soul finds it surprising
They don’t mention you at all
Back to table, back to bed
Back to the daily grind
Back to looking forward
In hopes of happy times
And the wheel of time keeps turning
There’s nothing can stem the tide
But this memory that I’m feeling
Is saying nothing really dies
