THE STREET

Lyrics

10,000 kids living on our streets, struggling to survive, no shoes on their feet.
I see you lying on your cardboard bed and think by myself, is there no better place instead?
Shame on us that we refuse to see what is so close to us, we just let it be.

The streets are dark, dirty and wild. No mercy, no real friend by your side.

Old ladies give you a dollar or two, it’s not enough to fight the hunger, not enough to get you through.

A warm soup per day at the salvation army station, is this good enough for such a rich nation?

Hey Kid – now the street is your home.
Hey Kid – don’t step back, never let you push down
Hey Kid – life is tough and blows cold in your face.
Hey Kid – next morning come, it’s another chase

It’s a dark and dirty street in dark and dirty town
No one looks at you -no one cares to turn around
You are begging for some dollars on the corner of the street.
At night the sound of trains does not let you go to sleep.
Wakes up, to a dawn which might bring a ray of light
Get up and stand tall, another day, another fight.

We are driving around in our big cars and don’t realize who lives next to us.

It’s hard to ignore but it is even harder to see, that we should become what we all should be
Real humans at last, able to show some respect. With courage to act that gives some effect.

Hey Kid – now the street is your home.
Hey Kid – don’t step back, never let you push down
Hey Kid – life is tough and blows cold in your face.
Hey Kid – next morning come, it’s another chase

Hey Kid -watch out in the darkness of the night
Hey Kid- there is a place waiting to come inside
Hey Kid- take a step towards the reaching hand
Hey Kid- in the darkest night there is a light at the end
