Where There’s No Going Back
Eight from the bowery and two from the tank
One former captain who was stripped of rank
Flags hung like guilty that swing from the noose
When we cut from the harbor we cut the dogs loose
Those who are with us but we do not see
The ones who’ve been freed from this captivity
Who sit on the waves and on top of the masts
Those who now voyage where there’s no going back
No one has seen the captain, two weeks since we left shore
Every morning his orders are nailed outside his cabin door
Captain, what is our heading?
Captain, what is our haul?
Captain, aren’t you gonna do anything at all?
You have forced a mutiny to break the locks of your door
Nothing but an empty room, a broken mirror on the floor
What are these notes in your pocket?
Demands the mutiny
This is how we came to find the captain was me
Overboard, swallowed by the sea
Lanterns from the ship fading into black
I now voyage where there’s no going back
Those who are with us but we do not see
The ones who’ve been freed from this captivity
Who sit on the waves and on top of the masts
Those who now voyage where there’s no going back
